Yesterday afternoon I visited my field site. My field site was a large gathering of donks held weekly called Stunt Sundays on Memorial Drive in Atlanta. Every Sunday, donk riders from all over the metro area gather to show off their rides. Since this was my first time going to this event, I was skeptical of the environment. My perception was that it would be lots of loud music, vulgar language, and arguing. Conversely, while it was some loud music, it was very nice and peaceful. Since I wasn’t familiar with the preceding or people for that matter, I had my friend, who also has a collection of donks and is familiar with the event, show me around and introduced me to some people. Because of this connection, I was able to net work, get sum valuable information about my paper and actually sit inside a few donks. The donk riders used terminology like shell to describe the beauty of a vehicle. Lockin’ it down was a term that is synonymous with a burn out. I asked questions like how you got started with your fascination with cars and how would I gain membership into this culture.
